5 Ways to Host your WordPress Blog on a VPS for FREE !

Many of us started blogging on a free platform like blogger and WordPress.com and then moved towards bigger things like hosting our own blog via blogging softwares like wordpress, drupal and others alike.

While free and hosted platforms like wordpress.com and blogger.com are easy and reliable, they do not provide ample options to experiment, expand and to really enjoy the full potential of blogging softwares.

So, today i am going to tell you about FIVE Reliable Virtual Private Server providers that can be used to host your blog (typically a WordPress installation as an example) for free !

I am NOT talking about those 3 days or one week trial offers on VPS where you have to move on even before you began to feel it !

Every VPS here is free, thus its for limited period of time, but its enough so that you may install your website and then relax to focus on blogging.

The idea here is to have a root access to the server and a dedicated ip address, so that you are able to install each and every part as you would like it to be.

1- Amazon Web Services

AWS is my favourite one. This is as simple and reliable cloud computing services can be.When you join AWS for the first time, you are eligible for their Free Tier lasting for 1 year.

Amazon Web Services offers a complete set of infrastructure and application services that enable you to run virtually everything in the cloud: from enterprise applications and big data projects to social games and mobile apps.

One of the key benefits of cloud computing is the opportunity to replace up-front capital infrastructure expenses with low variable costs that scale with your business.

AWS For Free – To help new AWS customers get started in the cloud, AWS is introducing a free usage tier. The free tier can be used for anything you want to run in the cloud: launch new applications, test existing applications in the cloud, or simply gain hands-on experience with AWS.

2- Microsoft Windows Azure.

Windows Azure is a Microsoft cloud computing platform for building, deploying and managing applications and services through a global network of Microsoft-managed datacenters. It provides both platform as a service (PaaS) and infrastructure as a service (IaaS) services and supports many different programming languages, tools and frameworks.

  • Quickly build, deploy & manage applications.
  • Use any operating system, language or tool.
  • No obligation, totally free.

Although they provide many services, we are interested in two of them-

  • Web sites – High density hosting of web sites. This feature was announced in preview form in June 2012 at the Meet Windows Azure event.Customers can create web sites in PHP, .NET, and Node.js, or select from several open source applications from a gallery to deploy. This comprises one aspect of the Platform as a Service (PaaS) offerings for the Windows Azure Platform.
  • Virtual machines – Announced in preview form at the Meet Windows Azure event in June 2012the Windows Azure Virtual Machines comprise the Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offering from Microsoft for their public cloud. Customers can create Virtual Machines, of which they have complete control, to run the Microsoft Data Centers. As of the preview the Virtual Machines supported Windows Server 2008 and 2012 RC operating systems and a few distributions of Linux.

5- Free Cloud Hosting For One Year

uhurucloud is offering free cloud hosting to everyone. I just ported my websites to them and it was easy as anything.

If you have a wordpress site you should consider them. Once you port your site you will see that there hosting is way superior than others such as rackspace.

I suggest doing the following for wordpress based site:

If you have a way to clone your site to them use that or else just register for managewp and use their services to clone. Go to http://uhurucloud.com and register with voucher code FreeHosting. This will give you access to their cloud.

I will be writing a separate article on each one of them about the tutorials and basic walkthrough’s.Try them and share your responces.
